Cuban customs’ crackdown has thwarted three illegal attempts to export large amounts of cigars this month.
Secure Border, the Cuban island’s campaign to eliminate smuggling cigars, have reported a trio of confiscations at the Jose Martin International airport in Havana.
The first saw 4,400 loose cigars with bands intercepted. This was followed by 4,500 counterfeit Cuban cigars, and then 7,300 loose cigars with 64 boxes.
All three hauls were attempting to leave Cuba without documents to verify their legal origin or documents to determine their provenance.
Cuba has stringent export and control regulations for their cigars, and upped the ante to crack down on one of their most trafficked products at airports and ports.
